the chili diaries, part 1.

turkey chili
recipe adapted from jenna's homestyle turkey chili.

1 white onion, chopped
2 red peppers, chopped
garlic, crushed
2 jalapenos, chopped
2 TB olive oil
saute until onions are translucent
add 1.5 pounds of ground turkey
cook over medium heat until browned
add 3 tB chili powder
1 tB cumin
2 tB brown sugar
1 ts. oregano
3 tB tomato paste
stir to cover all veggies
add 1 cup of red wine
2 tB your favorite barbecue sauce
1 large can of crushed tomatoes
2 cans of red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
2 bay leaves
stir together and let simmer for 1.5 hours. stir occasionally.
and like all chili, the longer you cook it the better it gets :)
serve with lots! of cheddar cheese, sour cream, and skyline oyster crackers, duh!

so i have decided that each sunday of september (this great idea occurred a few days ago) and of october (hopefully), i will be making chili. simply because nothing is better than chili and football. check in each week to see a new chili recipe (some veggie, some meat). i have my favorites so branching out is going to be tough. but i'm sure the deliciousness will be worth it :)
