before & after : dino.

this all started in the wood aisle at goodwill. yes, wood aisle is a real thing. filled with old paper towel holders and shelves and baskets, this aisle is a hot mess (second to only the christmas aisle - yikes)!
we stumbled across this unknown toy creature and instantly knew he was destined to be a dinosaur.

with samma's first nephew coming soon, we knew he had potential to be the coolest gift ever.
so we got to work and after some spray primer, made him all boy-ified with two shades of blue paint.

all the best dinos have spikes, so we cut triangles from felt and sewed them into pairs.
we left extra space at the bottom of each pair to hot glue them on.

and we present to you, the most fun project ever!

in our books, dino is a trillion times cooler now. wouldn't you agree?

i also wanted to make something else for baby to go along with dino
and after stumbling across this tutorial, i knew it would be the perfect match.
i didn't follow the directions from the tutorial, just picked up this navy & gray hooded jacket
from walmart and got to work. i cut triangles from the same sheet of felt
that we used for dino and sewed them into pairs as well. the only difference was
this time the spikes were sewn into the hood (rather than hot glue, obviously).
i was so happy with the way it turned out and can't wait to snap some pictures of baby boy
dressed in his spikes!
and don't worry, i also threw a dino on the cake. couldn't help myself!

have you guys ever made something out of nothing from a thrift store buy?
we'd love to see it!
